Buy Nothing Day

Buy nothing, buy nothing, Buy Nothing Day
Buy nothing, buy nothing, Buy Nothing Day
Buy nothing, buy nothing, Buy Nothing Day
Buy nothing, buy nothing, Buy Nothing Day

Because I buy too much
Because I use too much
Because I waste too much
Buy Nothing Day

Because you buy too much
Because you use too much
Because you waste too much
Buy Nothing Day

Because we buy too much
Because we use too much
Because we waste too much
Buy Nothing Day
Buy Nothing Day

Who lives hand to mouth?
North or South?
Who takes more, more, more?
Rich or Poor?

Shop less - live more
Think before you buy
Shop less - live more
Today is a good day to buy - nothing
Buy Nothing
Buy Nothing

Buy Nothing Day
Buy nothing, buy nothing
Buy Nothing Day
Buy nothing, buy nothing

Notes:

Originally I had a middle monologue section that went like this:

(Background Vocal)
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!
Tell me a story!

(spoken)
1.3 billion people live on less than one dollar per day.
1.3 billion people do not have fresh water to drink
The 3 richest men have more money than 600 million people.
The 3 richest men are Americans.
5% of the World's population live in America
Americans use 30% of the World's resources
American adults spend 6 hours per week shopping.
American adults spend 40 minutes per week playing with children.

How about your family?
How about your mum?
How about your dad?
How about you?
Who goes shopping too much?

But when I was checking the references I discovered that according to the Forbes list for 2002 only two of the three wealthiest men are American. Paul G. Allen lost third place to Germans Karl and Theo Albrecht. I don't understand how the list works. Two men occupy the third position yet members of the Walmart Family are listed separately (occupying positions 6 through 10).

And the figures I have regarding shopping are from 1987 and didn't actually specify adults (yet I don't believe American children only spend 40 minutes a week playing with each other).

I think there are difficulties with this version. But if you want to hear it you can download it you can decide for yourself.
